This AIA-certified CEU is made possible by AMBTRA, Inc. and Altyno Architectural Finishes. It focuses on how architectural film lets designers restyle, resurface and restore existing commercial interiors in place, keeping sound cabinetry, walls, doors and fixtures out of the waste stream.
AIA’s Learning Objectives
- Describe what architectural film is, how it is manufactured, and how it differs from conventional decorative surface materials.
- Identify the commercial applications, substrates, and project types where architectural film delivers the greatest design and performance value.
- Explain the performance characteristics of architectural film, including durability, fire rating, cleanability, and sustainability impact, and connect their relevance to specific project types
- Apply knowledge of proper substrate preparation, installer certification requirements, and specification language to accurately specify architectural film for a commercial project.

About this webinar
Architectural film is one of the fastest, least disruptive ways to give a tired commercial interior a new face. In this webinar, Kenn Busch walks through how these thin, pressure-sensitive decorative films are made and specified, and how they are applied directly over existing smooth, non-porous surfaces such as cabinetry, millwork, walls, doors, columns and elevator interiors, so the substrate underneath stays in service instead of going to the landfill.
The course covers where architectural film came from, its fire performance, the range of wood, stone, metallic and solid designs available, the high-density version made for hard-working horizontal surfaces, and what can and can’t damage it. It also explains why film is supplied and installed by trained dealers and certified installers as a warranted package, how to choose finishes for senior living and memory care, and how a national jewelry retailer used film to transform a store with minimal disruption to business.
About Altyno: Altyno is a division of AMBTRA, Inc. In 2017 AMBTRA partnered with AICA Kogyo to introduce a new architectural film product to the U.S., with the sole purpose of training people how to effectively install an aesthetically pleasing product with an environmentally conscious mindset. Today there are more than 700 carefully curated designs, distributed through a network of selected dealers.
